FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — October 31, 2006, Downtown Los Angeles, CA

McLean Fine Art in collaboration with Phantom Galleries Los Angeles presents Look In — Four site-specific installations in two locations — Downtown Los Angeles & Pasadena

Look In is a group exhibition of site-specific installations that transform store front windows into microcosms that challenge the notion of space, place, and belonging, as well as the private becoming public spectacle. Look In features the artwork of five McLean Fine Art artists: Michiko Yao, Miller Updegraff, Dan Van Clapp, and Michele Jaquis and Jeremy Quinn, curated by Ashley McLean Emenegger. Public viewing for both spaces available all day, everyday through December 2006.

Downtown Los Angeles
131 E. 6th Street, Santa Fe Lofts @ the corner of 6th and Los Angeles

Featuring: Dan Van Clapp

Reception: Thursday, November 9, 7 to 9p, in conjunction with the Downtown Art Walk

What if a militia man/mad scientist with a Dr. Strangelove vibe were to have a yard sale of some of their discarded inventory of faux-weapons of mass destruction? Well, you could read about it in an obscure posting on Craigslist or actually see what this might look like through the sculptural work of Dan Van Clapp.

Dan questions objects of reverence and pledges of nationalism with a healthy dose of cynicism, simultaneously exposing their absurdity and hypocrisy. In his painstakingly executed simulations of military inventions and prototypes, he exposes the insanity of the Genie behind the curtain.

Pasadena
The former Homestead furniture shop located at 680 E Colorado Boulevard @ El Molino

Featuring: Michiko Yao, Miller Updegraff, and Rise Industries (Michele Jaquis & Jeremy Quinn)

Yao's installation Fancy House, investigates the hybridization of art, culture, and sexuality with a feminist point of view. Updegraff extends the dimensionality of his traditional media of painting, transforming the storefront into the abandoned site of a rave, using patterned lights and spatial disruptions to activate and transform the 3-dimensionality of the space. Rise Industries (Michele Jaquis and Jeremy Quinn) presents Here, Together, a three-channel, video installation documenting the artists' interactions with the abandoned building on a basic level, using projections of light and shadow that glide through the space, reflect from passing cars, and improvising short performances where their own shadows merge into one.

Phantom Galleries L.A (www.phantomgalleriesla.com) places temporary art exhibits in vacant storefronts though out Los Angeles County. McLean Fine Art (www.mcleanfineart.com) provides arts consultancy services, visual artist career coaching, and distinctive fine art exhibitions.
